The historical archive

The Foundation has cataloged and preserves in an archive the material collected by Fr. Luigi over the course of his life from 1940 to 1997. material collected by Fr. Luigi over the course of his life from 1940 to 1997.

The Archive has been recognized as “of significant historical interest for its importance to the social and cultural history of the 20th century” by the Archival Superintendency for Lazio.

The central hub is the conference of February 1974 dedicated to the “Responsibilities of Christians in response to the expectations of charity and justice in the Diocese of Rome”, which went down in history as “the conference on the evils of Rome” inspired by Mons. Di Liegro.

The cataloged material also covers all the major ecclesiastical and social issues that traverse the city and the entire country: territorial and pastoral reorganization of the Diocese of Rome, administrative decentralization, housing issue, healthcare, family, immigration, minors, drug addiction, usury. On these topics, notes, press reviews, legislative interventions, conferences, and correspondence are preserved. Particularly extensive is the documentation related to the opening of the Caritas Diocesan services in the territory of Rome.

The archive also contains documents and press reviews related to countries like Belgium and France – always considered by Don Di Liegro as references for observing social and pastoral phenomena – Albania, and other developing world locations where the priest initiated significant projects for the reconstruction of the social fabric.

there are 6 sections that make up the archive:
